Death is welcomed by Christians openly, with the belief that it is an exit from the world of pain and a path into the world of everlasting happiness. To some degree, the family left behind find relief knowing that their dead relative is with God Himself now, enjoying the happiness heaven offers.
Generally, a Christian funeral service is conducted by the pastor. The funeral service normally takes place at the church of which the deceased was a regular visitor. Usually the services don’t have casket, but in case the service is being held inside a funeral home, caskets are very often present. Usually, Christian funeral ceremony does not have the custom of displaying the body of the dead person.
The proceedings in such a funeral service are similar to a memorial, in which devotional hymns and similar prayers are sung and texts from the Bible are read out. Then the priest gives a message and the people join in with a mass prayer.
Then the attendees partake in the sadness of the family as well as close friends and tell about their own feelings as to how the dead person has influenced them and created an everlasting impression in their minds. These days, people also do a slideshow containing snapshots from the life of the dead person or play a video recording taken from his or her lifetime.
The ceremony finally finishes with a brief fellowship reception at the church, where food is served. Generally, people do not go for a graveside service, but some families that make an exception to this.
