Dog Bark: What Is Your Dog Saying?
Barking is a means of communication for dogs so you should not chastise your dog all the time for barking. However, when your dog barks excessively and would not stop even if you tell to, you have a pretty big problem on your hand. Your neighbors would not take it kindly if your dog barks all night and they may let you know in no uncertain terms on how they feel about your dog’s barking. Now, just because your dog barks excessively that does not mean that you should get an anti-bark collar immediately to silence it. According to experts, excessive barking is a dog’s way of communicating to its master that it is not comfortable about something so before you reach out for that anti-bark collar, find out first what is wrong with your pet. First, does your dog bark because it’s hungry or thirsty?
Dogs who haven’t eaten will only bark louder because that’s the way you have accustomed them to get their food. Another thing to consider is if the dog’s favorite toy is available to the animal. Interestingly enough, dogs know that they can’t reach a toy on the top of a shelf, but they know that you can and will bark at you until you give it to them.
In addition to physical needs, dog have feelings, so if you find that the dog is not sick and has been fed and given water, then your dog might be lonely, stressed, or plain bored. When a dog is left alone in a house or apartment for hours without company, it will start to bark in order to express whatever negative feelings it has.
In fact some dogs bark for hours out of boredom or anxiety. If your dog barks continuously after being left alone in the house for hours, do not get the anti-bark collar to silence your dog. Instead of using that anti-bark device, take your dog out for a walk. Once your dog calms down, it won’t bark so much. Besides, you and your dog could both use some fresh air and exercise so get out of the house and walk!.
A dog’s barking can also be triggered by a specific circumstance. If after making sure your dog is healthy and comfortable, you can’t find an answer to “why does my dog bark?” then try to see if there’s something that triggers the barking, like the sound of your telephone. If you find out exactly what excites your dog, you can take action, for example, setting your phone to silence or changing the ring to something more pleasant. In this way, you take away the reason why your dog barks.
When does your dog barkNobody likes a loud dog bark but the louder it is, the more urgent the message your dog is trying to convey to you is.
