Gas Fires – Stylish And Safe
Winter nights might prove a challenge to your heating system. Frequently quarrels might break out over the different heating needs of the different inhabitants of a house. Many fireplaces might be used exclusively as artful ornaments due to the hassle of traditional fires. For these situations and many others, gas fires are the best solution. Fueled by some form or other of natural gas (propane most often, or LPG – liquefied petroleum gas), they are the most environmentally-friendly yet highly efficient form of heating.
Let us take the case of the fireplace. These rarer and rarer pieces of architecture and art are too often left to age as a purpose-less decorative item, when they could be put to perfect use by installing an inset gas fire. The chimney will also enjoy rediscovering its functionality, as these models channel their exhaust gases through it. Style is at home with this variant, with elegant masterpieces in the basket-form section, traditional trims and fascias on open ones or contemporary materials such as chrome or brass on glass-fronted, highly efficient types.
Second scenario – like most people in this day and age, you live in a modern building that gave up on the chimney for the pre-cast flue, a thin duct that hardly allows much of an option in terms of gas heating. In this case, it would be wise to contemplate two modern options: the power flue and the balanced flue. They both require the use of an outer wall, as their noxious gases are eliminated via pipes leading to the outdoor. The power flue system requires electricity for the fan it employs and for the processor that constantly monitors the gas emissions level. The balanced flue uses a duo of pipes, one leading the exhaust out and the other suctioning air in, for combustion purposes. Both technologies come wrapped in equally modern or traditional styles, are often remote controlled and offer you the convincing visual illusion of an old-fashioned fire.
Third scenario – your apartment has no chimney or flue, and no outer walls at all. Do not despair, for the state-of-the-art gas fire is called, suggestively, the flueless gas fire. It is the newest technology in the area, it can be installed in any room, wall-mounted or not, in landscape or portrait variants, and requires no vent because its ingenious converter tears apart the carbon monoxide and puts it back together as carbon dioxide, the very gas we exhale daily – say hello to your new roommate!
Beyond and quite before style comes safety. It is always better to have a professional install a gas fire and ensure the proper exhaust channels (or make sure the rooms are well ventilated and large enough for a flueless model). Also, most gas heaters are not strong enough to start a fire on prolonged contact, still it is better to keep them at least one meter away from flammable items such as clothing, carpets or curtains.
