How Do I Choose The Best Type of Vending Machine Business?

by Pamella Neely

If you are really interested in starting a vending machine business, the best way to do it is to start part-time and build it up gradually. Of course, a lot depends on the kind of commitment you are willing to make as far as investment is concerned. If you do not have a lot of money to invest, begin with one or two small vending machines and expand steadily as your profits start pouring in. This is prudent even if you do have substantial resources at your disposal. It is better to test the waters before plunging in completely.

As you consider starting your own business, keep in mind that location is one of the most important aspects of a successful vending machine business. Try to choose locations that get a lot of traffic on a regular basis. Many of these locations are already overstocked with vending machines, so be aware of this going in. You need to be prepared to have vending machine contents that are a bit unusual so that merchants will be interested in your services.

Just how important is location? So much so that there are companies who devote their time to discovering prime locations for clients. If it is within your budget, you should consider hiring one of these companies to assist you. You can also visit locations on your own, but be sure to take one of your machines with you so that merchants can see what you have to offer.

You should not install your machines at places that are far away from where you live, regardless of how populated those places are. The reason for this is that you will have to spend a lot of time checking on your machines to make sure they are fully stocked, and so you can take up the cash that is in them. It is very important that you allow for fuel costs when you calculate your projected earnings.

Vending machines are available in a variety of shapes and sizes. There are small ones that hold candy, and larger ones that hold snacks and drinks. There are also medium-sized gum ball machines. It is best to choose one that does not need constant restocking and maintenance. You might want to hire someone to take care of these things for you. Alternatively, if you want to keep your costs to the bare minimum, you can take care of these chores yourself.

The running costs of operating a vending business may appear to be restricted only to the costs of snacks, drinks, and candy, but the fact is that there are several hidden costs that may arise later. These include repairs, maintenance, servicing, and fuel. Do your homework properly before you decide to start this business. If you are able to get good locations, you can expect your monthly sales to be between $20 to $200 per machine.

Before purchasing your vending machines, be sure that they come with proper warranties. You might also want to ensure that your machines are purchased from companies that will provide service for them. Making sure your machines have warranties will save you a lot of inconvenience and expense when your machines need to be serviced.
