Interior Design Pointers For Teenagers’ Personal Space

Children would eventually grow up. Then, as children become teenagers, their worldview would change. So, it will be that even if parents will remember how their seven-year old begged so much to have a mural of his or her favorite cartoon character painted on the bedroom wall, the same child will now be expressing a desire to change everything in the room and finally do away with the mascot so loved in his or her childhood.

This is a very crucial time for kids, who would be seeking ways to assert their individuality. Mothers and fathers can help by being there when their child asks for emotional or moral support. So, to help their kids become well-adjusted adults later on, mothers and fathers can show their support by helping their teens plan the new interior design for their rooms – designs that celebrate their coming of age.

Some parents leave it to their kids to design their bedrooms. Still, there are teens who see this as an opportunity to consult the adults about interior design ideas for their own rooms. Below are some of the interior design components that mothers and fathers (and teenagers) can apply in their bedroom remodeling project.

Lighting. Rooms benefit more from indirect lighting, as advised by some interior design experts. Indirect lighting eliminates the glaring effect of fluorescent bulbs that is commonly dubbed as the “grocery aisle effect. Indirect lighting can be accomplished with strategically placed lamps in the room.

Furniture. Some teens assume that a bean bag is sufficient as an interior design statement. For parents who wish to introduce their teenagers to the concept of class and taste can help them pick out pieces of furniture that go well with the bedroom walls’ color and that would also be comfortable for lounging (just in case some of the kid’s friends come over).

Storage. Most teenagers are still unfamiliar with being organized and still find it somewhat difficult to always return their belongings in their rightful places. In order for teens to become motivated in keeping their personal stuff organized, mom and dad can help by supplying funky storage bins.
