There are a number of plumbing repairs that require immediate attention. Chief among these is a clogged drain. Everyone knows the inconvenience and mess that accompany a sluggish drain. Dealing with a clogged drain is just no fun. However, remedial actions taken at the right time can control the situation.

Blocking of the shower drain is also one such situation. When soap scum, hair etc gets into the drain on daily basis, can completely choke the shower drain. Therefore, clear away all the mess from the drains as soon as possible. Well, the task is not that difficult and you can surely do that by yourself if you have an auger.

Clearing up the drain blockage becomes a child play if one has an auger with him. For those who do not have this wonderful device can go on cleaning the drains using the steps mentioned below.

To start with, take out the trap from the drains mouth by unscrewing the screws that secure it in place. Also, you can make use of the nose pliers in case the trap has no screws.

Next step is to fill the shower drain with a little water. Make use of a plunger and plunge it vigorously. Repeat the steps twice if the clogging is still at its place.

If the clog is very tough and plunger is unable to fix the problem, go for the garden hose. Jam the drain completely using a garden hose. Also, wad the towel into it. Turn on and off the water supply to the drain with high speed. This will hit the clog forcefully.

Consequently, the clog will move on down the line. Bother yourself cleaning the entire mess both in and outside the drains. Place back the pop- in stopper or the trap tightening them with the screws. Pour good quantity of water into the drain at last.

If by all efforts, you failed to unplug the drains, you need to have an auger. This can more accurately reach and hit the clog. Else, take the advice from a qualified plumber.
