A few nights ago a couple of friends called me up. Last minute thing. They’d gotten a couple of tickets to this show at a club. We didn’t even know what kind of show it was going to be. Since we had nothing to do, we went, not really expecting anything. What we saw completely blew us away. And then some. This guy we saw was the most skilled magician I’ve ever seen.

He started off by doing basic sleight of hand stuff. Covertly taking people’s jewelry, and then pulling them out of his socks. He shook hands with this one guy, and then somehow put his watch one some other lady six or seven tables over. Then he just let her discover his watch and try to figure out who it belonged to. That in and of itself was a great trick.

The next set of tricks he did were these weird picture tricks. He would get three or four random people in the audience, and get them to draw a simple picture on a napkin. Then he would inspect them, and show them to the crowd. Then he revealed this big picture that he obviously painted before the show. The kicker was that his previously painted picture contained all the small pictures that the audience drew.

After that he really blew us away. He put on this old style turban, the kind that stereotypical psychics wore on old time vaudeville posters. Then he accurately predicted all kinds of things that there is no way he could have figured out. Just when were sure that he couldn’t do any more, he pulled out his grand finale.

Just when we thought he had reached his limit, he asked some people to come on stage. He did this really cool hypnosis, where he hypnotized people into guessing the birthdays of strangers. It was the most bizarre thing I’ve ever seen.

If you’ve never seen an up close magician, you definitely should check it out. I had forgotten how incredibly wonderful watching one can be. If you want to really have some fun, you should figure out a way to learn these tricks yourself.
