What Are Press Brake Tooling And Dies?

There is a machine tool you can use that bends she’d or plate metal, and it’s called a press brake. You can tool metal in all different sizes and shapes, and a press brake (along with requisite dies) is necessary for this. Every machine used in this manner applies force differently, with some using pneumatic force, some using hydraulic force, some using mechanical force, and some using servo electric force. Different types of force are used to change the speed or impact of the force applied to the metal. In turn, this creates just the right angle or shape to bend the sheet metal into. Computers, too, are now used in this process, and the mechanical press is the most commonly use among those enumerated above because of this. The mechanical press is also the most powerful and most accurate. It’s used along with the back gauge, so that the material is positioned properly and the press brake bends the metal in just the right place and at just the right angle.

Press brake dies are all different allowing different jobs to be performed with a press brake. There is 90 degree dies that often used for bottoming operations. Depending on the angle will depend on the best press brake die to use. Air bending dies will help you to get the obtuse angles, 90 degree angles, and even the acute angles. Air bending will just depend on how you adjust the ram on what kind of angle you will get.

Press Brake Tooling Dies Used

There are a variety of dies to choose from; you use these with the press brake, and the die you use will create the design you want. For example, you can use press brake tooling dies like rotary bending, v-dies, hemming, 90 degree, beading, curling, four-way die blocks, tube and pipe-forming, box forming, acute angle, channel-forming, multiple-bend, corrugating, rocker-type, offset, seaming, U-bend, gooseneck, and radius dies.

The hemming dies are press brake tooling dies, and are used in a process that takes two stages. The first uses an acute angle die, and then a flattening process will follow. For those things that need to have coiling around the edges, curling dies are used. Similar to tube and pipe dies, they’re a little bit different; they’re fitted around a mandrel, so larger curls are formed.

You can also make a box with press brake tooling, and this uses the punch in sections, moving along until you form right angles so that a box is formed by making a series of shapes in rectangle format. This punch will need the metal to be high enough so that the sides of the box you’re making are also high enough, based upon what you want.

There are a number of different press brake dies to choose from, but with press brakes, V-dies are the most common type of die used. They come in all different sizes and openings, so that you get the right size and shape to make the right angle, depending on how you bend the metal you’re working on.

Press brake tooling is often used in metalworking, and this is one of the most ubiquitous tools in the industry; it’s very, very common, and it’s especially prevalent for someone who’s always working on something in metal. You use the proper press brake to get the proper result, and you also need to make sure that using the right tool for the job you’re undertaking. The proper press brake will get the job done right.
